Measuring a drawer before buying an organiser

Kitchen drawer cutlery organised

Drawer organisers come back more often than any other storage item, almost always because of one missing measurement.

Measure the interior, not the front

The drawer front overhangs the box on most modern kitchens. Open the drawer fully and measure inside the box: width, depth and height.

Watch the height under the runner

A soft-close runner and the underside of the counter both eat height. Bag organisers in particular need a minimum drawer height, and ours carry that figure on the page.

Modular beats one big tray

Separate boxes fill an odd-shaped drawer completely and rearrange when the contents change. A single moulded tray only works if the drawer matches its exact size.

Expandable trays

Buy for the closed size to fit, then expand. A tray bought for its maximum will not close far enough for a narrow drawer.

Liner first

A thin liner stops the arrangement sliding every time the drawer shuts, and it is cheaper than replacing a scratched drawer base.
