Hanging art on Indian walls: fixings, height and the measurement people skip

Hanging picture frame wall tools

A framed canvas is only as safe as the fixing behind it, and most flats have at least two wall types in the same room.

Identify the wall first

  • Solid brick or concrete — plastic wall plug with a masonry screw. Drill on hammer setting and blow the dust out of the hole.
  • Hollow block — a longer sleeve anchor that expands behind the shell; a short plug simply spins.
  • Drywall or partition — a toggle or butterfly anchor rated above the weight of the piece, never a bare screw.

Height

Centre the piece about 145–150 cm from the floor, which is eye level for most adults. Above a sofa, ignore that and leave 15–20 cm between the sofa back and the frame.

The measurement people skip

Measure from the top of the frame to the hanging wire pulled taut, not to the hook on the back. That distance decides where the screw goes.

Groups of two or three

Keep 5–8 cm between frames and treat the group as one rectangle when centring. Arrange it on the floor first.

What we supply

Framed pieces arrive with the hanging hardware fitted on the back. Wall fixings are not included, because the right fixing depends on your wall rather than on the frame.
